What is a reformer?

The machine behind the method

A sliding carriage set on rails within a wooden frame, connected to a system of springs providing calibrated resistance. You push or pull the carriage using your feet, hands, or body weight - lying, sitting, kneeling or standing. The resistance adjusts from light to challenging, making it suitable for complete beginners through to elite athletes.

How does it work?

Resistance that moves with you

Your teacher sets the spring resistance for your level. As you move, your muscles work against that resistance - building strength, improving control, and developing body awareness. Because the machine supports your body weight, it is far kinder on joints than traditional gym equipment while still delivering a deeply effective workout.

Adjustable resistance
Springs calibrated to your level by your teacher
Joint-friendly movement
Low impact, high effectiveness - suitable after injury
Expert instruction
Every movement coached and corrected throughout
How is it different from mat Pilates?

Not the same thing.

Mat Pilates - bodyweight only, floor-based, limited resistance
Reformer - spring resistance, supported movement, greater range
Suitable from day one, even with injuries or limited mobility

Mat Pilates uses only bodyweight on the floor. The Reformer adds spring resistance, supports the body through movements, and allows a far greater range of exercises. It can be made easier or harder than mat work - and is often recommended for people who find floor-based exercise difficult.

Who is it for?
